A couple of weeks ago we went to Apeldoorn again to evangelize. This time we used a new way to evangelize: we asked people on the street to drink a cup of coffee together, the responses of the people were varied. A Muslim young man who first wanted to join, told us he did not have an easy life. He told that he prayed to God sometimes, but that he did not experience anything during the prayer. He had no living relationship with God like we do. Even though it did appeal to him, the conversation went in another direction as soon as we mentioned the name of Jesus and we saw that he was not open for that. That is of course hard to break through when someone is stuck like that in a certain way of thinking. Still we could tell him that Jesus really loves him and that he may always, at any moment come to God. Just as we seriously considered to change the text on the whiteboard, we met an older man (of around 60 years old) that wanted to drink a cup of coffee with us. We had a long conversation with him and we were able to build a little bit of a relationship which created more openness to talk about Jesus. This man was really looking for truth and he looked into different prophets already. But he had the opinion that Jesus was not the full truth. We asked him questions like “How do you know for sure what is the truth?”. He agreed with us that it is about a conviction within. As we asked him if he was also open to receive that conviction from Jesus, he said not to be open to that. But we could pray for him (at home), so the door was not completely shut. Later on he said he was thinking about reading the Bible again that he had at home. Another step closer to Jesus!
