Testimony of ex-student Joost van de Kleut
I still remember it very well. I was just a few days in Indonesia and here I was, in one of the 150 slums in Jakarta, in a small room, together with Petra (teammember) and a translator talking with Sola. Sola is a ‘ladyboy’, that’s what they call it in Jakarta. Sola is a man during the day, but during the night he wears women clothing. To earn some money, he sings for other men. In this room we see different wigs which he uses these to change himself in a woman.
Sola is from a Islamic background, he and his family were Muslim. Also his wife has this background.
When he get to know Jesus and accepted Him in his life, there was no contact more available with his family. It was also impossible to connect with his wife and children, because of his parents in law. Sola lives in Indonesia, they in Middle-East.
This makes it difficult to accept that Jesus guides his life, but Sola wants this very much.
Via our translator we can talk with him, besides that we can encourage him, and testify from Gods faithfulness. We could also pray together, read from the bible and speak words of life to each other.
This touched him and gave him confidence. Through Jesus, through the Holy Spirit in him, there was hope and perspective.
It was special to see that in the midst of misery something happened. Also for myself, ….
After a week I saw Sola at a Christmas-party. He and a lot of his friends, also lady-boys, were present. We recognized each other immediately. Sola said that, because of the conversation we had, there was a longing to get to know God more. He read more often in the bible and made the choice to expect more from God.
God learned me that there is hope in the middle of misery. That His vison is different than my vision. God is faithful, and with Him there is always hope.
In Indonesia I’ve discover this more and more. We can trust that God will continue with this process.
That is something that brings us hope.
